CNY and much more

It feels like ages since i last blogged, though it's only been a week.
I realise that alot of things can happen in a week, hearts can change, minds can go insane, chlldren grow up, old folks get dementia...

Anyhows, it's still Chinese New Year. 15 days. Of being invited to eat, of inviting people to eat, of tubs of pineapple tarts everywhere you turn and screaming people waiting to strike 21 on the gambling table.

"LOH HEI" it's my favourite part of CNY, i could eat this everyday- It's a mixture of shredded vegetables and tossed by everyone for good luck.
Mum, Grandma and me
New baby to the family! Ming Ming (my cousin) and his wife and baby!
See what i mean, pineapple tarts all over the shop
It was one of the worse CNYs for me anyway. Too much on my mind and feeling physically not up to it. Possibly the most happening thing was having ALL the channels on TV to choose from. So i had my fill of Star Chinese Movies. (It's awesome to get to see Louis Khoo, Edison Chen, Daniel Wu consecutively on screen for a few days in a row)

I also finally started Lookbook (www.lookbook.nu) but i had to learn how to collage my photos, edit them, etc. i'm terrible at it. It's like asking me to go do accounting. Disaster waiting to happen. But above one of my attempts. At least i'm trying!

And do check out my other outfits at lookbook.com/sofiechandra

I'll keep the post short, if not i'll keep rambling on and on...

I'll post up about the Zouk Members' Party soon! xx

birthdays and blue pompom cupcakes

We met up for Jenn's belated birthday at Wild Honey (Scotts) for supposed brunch. 11am on a Saturday, and of course no one was on time except Cinddie. Jenn arrived if i remember correctly 2 hours late? But i guess she's the birthday girl, so all's forgiven.

I still recall with fond memories on how i had first started SMU's cheerleading team in my 2nd year of university. It remains to be one of those things in my life that i would consider monumental, for the lack of a better word.

Cheerleading with the Sapphires taught me many lessons, including teamwork, friendship, trust, commitment, leadership, motivation and inspiration amongst many other things. I have also made the closest friends that have been by my side for the past 9 years.

Wild Honey's Norwegian Breakfast (Asparagus, Avocado, Eggs, Salmon & a whole lot of yums)
Some Mandarin Strawberry drink (next time i have to pay more attention to the menu)

Cheryl bought cupcakes for Jenn, all cheerleading related & colours of our uniform
Once the cupcakes were out, cameras came out in an instance

Self portrait

It was really nice catching up, and since we couldn't get someone to take a picture of all of us, we had to do it in the toilet. -_-

This year we will also be looking at a few weddings amongst us. I'm really happy for them, and of course the conversations included in laws, having kids and how much life would change. (the usual)
Some friendships are meant to last a lifetime. These are. For sure.

cheerleading, january blues & my world is upside down

I would like to be the first to admit how difficult it is to be committed to blogging. I tell myself that there are tonnes of things i want to blog about, and it's all swimming around in my head somewhere. Then, suddenly a week has passed, and i haven't put a single thought down and i have a bunch of pictures that seem outdated.

Hong Kong seems so long ago, though it's been hardly a week. And all it took was one message to turn my world upside down.

If i could, i would very much like to share it all here, every single word, every single passing moment and every single emotion or tear drop that has happened since i heard. Completely shrouded in pain, my heart continues to break and shatter everyday.

I shall not then go into depth or go into emo psycho mode, but i will keep it, and grow from it.

Some updates that interest me and i hope interests you. My family bought a new coffee machine. Amidst raging feedback from the brothers on how it SHOULD have been a Nespresso machine, it is an ILLY. My arguement is that ILLY has proven to be more than decent coffee, so this machine's got to be good. I personally haven't tried it but my dad seems to express much content.

Hungover Sundays 5th Launch!

It's really been 4 months since we started Hungover Sundays. And, it truly has been a journey. We love it, love how it is developing and slowly but surely, we hope to see it continue to grow.

Really proud of Daph for doing such good work with the photos. If someone asked me to take up a camera and shoot like that, it'll never happen, and we probably won't have any pictures up at all!

I actually personally love the new collection, big love to Hazel & Maki for being our models and pulling off everything perfectly. I love all the dresses for this collection, especially the Dyanne Shift-style bodycon dress in black and white.

here's a glimpse to some of the apparel!

It's my last night in Hong Kong & I'm completely feeling the upcoming post holiday blues sneaking up on me. Utterly depressing.

Pre-holiday is always great because it's that built up of good anticipation & i love planning, the whole process of searching for the best flights, researching on places to dine, shop & hangout & remembering places that must be re-visited if it is a repeat destination. And then eventually just counting down to the day when the plane flies off, and it becomes a temporal escape.

Then before you know it & just in the blink of an eye, it's the night before the flight home & that whole overwhelming sinking feeling of how it's all over. Dramatically, it feels like the end of the world.

They say pictures paint a thousand words. So pictures it shall be...

Most of my trip I spent eating. I mean it's Hong Kong right? So of course I have to be stuffing myself as best as I can. Aside from trying to spot good looking guys (to be very honest, the guys in HK dress way better & put in a whole lot more effort).

So I finally had HUO GUO (also commonly known as "steamboat" for most of us). It was Mari & me & we over-ordered. Normally in Singapore, you order one serving of tofu, they give you 4 pieces of tofu, here it's like 10. -_-

And Mari wanted to order 2 servings of fishballs, luckily we only ordered 1! When you first arrive at the Huo Guo restaurant, they serve you the whole tray of condiments, so you can make your own sauce, then you order the dishes & choose your soup base. There's like 20 types of soups to choose from.

See the tofu!!

Too much food!!
Anyways, more pictures & i need to rush to sleep really soon!! Have to catch the flight back tomorrow, while secretly hoping that I might miss it...

hello kitty hello hong kong

It's been 5 days that i've been in the land of flowing canto, milk tea and "cha chan ting" (hong kong cafes, that mostly open 24 hours). I was just telling Marilyn last night over Tsui Wah (one of the hong kong cafe joints) how i might actually love to live here.

Tsui Wah's fish ball and fish cake noodles in fish soup

Tsui Wah Hong Kong Milk Tea
 A few reasons:

1. To fulfill my lifelong dream of marrying into a gang/mafia circle.

2. I love the fact that there are chinese medicine shops all around. I am a true believer of ying and yang, "liang chas" (chinese teas) and all things traditional.
3. 24 hour Hong Kong cafes
4. The weather has been absolutely glorious!! And i can wear my scarves and jackets.
5. Love the cantonese dialect, how it sounds, how it rolls off the tongue...

I think there are tonnes of other reasons, or maybe i just want to get out of SIngapore. Often than not, the grass is always greener on the other side anyway.

It has been a good 5 days, i think my antibiotics have proven to work, i haven't coughed in possibly 5 days.

Got lost everyday, learnt once more to appreciate public transport, rolling down the stairs of the apartment, almost falling on the MTR, falling in love with Star Street, the small cafes and of course the Monocle shop, shopping and more shopping, looked for stock for Hungover Sundays, had amazing chirashi, checked out an Agnes B exhibition, ate more Tsui Wah and stalked a Hong Kong celebrity. CAN I JUST STAY HERE IN HONG KONG ALREADY PLEASE?

A few other things i discovered thus far, i love being alone. Not that i don't enjoy meeting friends and hanging out, BUT all the time in the world to dress up before going out, wander the streets amidst everyone else's rushing and really just soaking every bit of life, Hong Kong and the smallest pleasures like having an egg tart.

Dress from ASOS, Balenciaga Part-time, Agnes B scarf, Hungover Sundays Necklace, H&M stockings, Steve Madden Red Boots

Polar Bear Hat with paws (Streets of Bangkok), Les Queues de Sardines stockings, Black Leather Jacket (Streets of Hong Kong)

I also had the blessing of having amazing friends here. So over many meals of food, coffee, drinks and cake, we talked about life, friends, Singapore, love, Zouk, Butter, and much more.

Betty's Kitchen at IFC Mall- Tea set for 2 (looks better than it tastes!)
Onion Soup at The Press Room, Hollywood Street

Chirashi at Sushi Kuu, Wellington Street (SHIOK!)
I'm trying very hard not to have holiday blues, because i'm only going to be here for 4 more days =(

2012 i promised myself to only seek joy, and cut out the emoshit. So far so good, though i still miss him and when i think about him, my heart melts and i feel that weakening in my knees then i just try to let the feeling pass me by.

So last night, i ended up walking the night street at Kowloon, where i'm currently staying with Marilyn, and drama of all times: we were in 7-11 with RAYMOND LAM. To be completely honest, i have no idea who he is. But because in Hong Kong, there are so many good looking guys, my eyes are constantly on the look out.

So i spotted him, and i told Mari: look at that guy, he's so cute! Then she starts to go into this psychotic panic mode, like how i was seeing Edison Chen in Tokyo. And then i'm trying to buy juice and she FORCES me to buy orange juice, when i was looking for apple juice.

We end up outside 7-11 and i'm trying to tweet about this celebrity sighting, while Mari is trying to drag me across the road so she can be a fan girl and stare at him from afar. To cut the long story short, she almost makes me tweet about the white porsche being Raymond Lam's, and we end up standing behind a glass door across the street from the 7-11 staring at him. -_-

After what feels like the longest time, he comes out of 7-11 and hops into a cab. And Mari rushes home to try to calm herself down.

Hong Kong celebrity sighting of Raymond Lam and end result NO PICTURE OR NO AUTOGRAPH. HAHAHAAHA TOO HILARIOUS.

Me & Marilyn

This post is too long. This is really the result of being lazy. I'll update more again, but i finally bought the hello kitty frames!! They are really cute! Wondering if people would love them if we sold it on Hungover Sundays? Thoughts??

Rushing out now to collect stock for Hungover Sundays! Till the next post!
